Sacred Heart Summer Camp's Volunteers
Sacred Heart Summer Camp is staffed by a warm and caring team of experienced volunteers principally from New York and New Jersey, but sometimes as far away as California. We actively recruit volunteers from high schools affiliated with our hosts - the Marist Brothers, including Mount Saint Michael Academy (Bronx), Saint Joseph Regional High School (NJ), Archbishop Molloy High School (Queens), and Marist High School (Chicago). We also recruit high school students who attended Sacred Heart Summer Camp as campers, who would like to return and serve as volunteers.
Each year at Sacred Heart Summer Camp, between 65 and 85 volunteers spend time caring for and mentoring our campers. Our volunteers serve as counselors, lifeguards, activities and special events coordinators, medical staff, and the kitchen crew. They are creative and energetic. They are dedicated as demonstrated by the fact that so many continue to return year after year. For many of our volunteers, working at Sacred Heart Summer Camp is a substantial sacrifice. Many of our volunteers forgo summer jobs, or spend their limited vacation time with our children. Others give up precious time with their husbands, wives and children to work with our children. They are truly beloved by our campers as evidenced by the tears that are shed each Saturday when the buses arrive to take everyone home.
